Description
Thymosin beta-4 is one of the most abundant peptides in mammalian cells, and TB-500 is the synthetic form used in research. Its function is fundamental rather than specialised: it governs actin availability, which in turn controls how cells move. That places it upstream of almost every repair process, which is why the literature spans cardiac, corneal, dermal and neural models rather than concentrating in one area.
Mechanisms of Action
TB-500 is a synthetic peptide corresponding to the actin-binding region of thymosin beta-4. Research describes sequestration of G-actin monomers, regulating the pool available for filament polymerisation and thereby influencing cytoskeletal reorganisation and cell motility. Studies document downstream effects on endothelial cell migration and angiogenesis, keratinocyte migration in dermal models, and stem cell recruitment to injury sites. Additional work reports anti-inflammatory activity, modulation of matrix metalloproteinase expression during remodelling, and progenitor cell recruitment to injury sites. The peptide's abundance in mammalian tissue is itself a recurring point in the mechanistic literature.
